Makati City 21 August 2008 The J. Reuben Clark Law Society (JRCLS) Philippines Chapter held its Grand Launching and Induction Ceremony at the Buendia Chapel on 21 August 2008. President Keith Edwards and Elder Won Yong Ko of the Philippines Area Presidency graced the occasion.   Also present were officers, members, and other distinguished guests from the local and international community.

The event was highlighted by introducing the free legal services that the Society offers to members of the church in need of legal assistance. The members of the Philippines Chapter have assisted needy saints in various cases even before the Chapter was established.

The Philippines Chapter was organized three months earlier. The event marks the formal presentation of the local chapter to the members of the Area Presidency. President Edwards, who was the guest speaker, gave a very inspiring message to the members of the Society. He said that, “…personal religious conviction is the highest standard we will have.” Pres Edwards is a lawyer by profession.

The JRCLS is an organization of law school students and alumni consisting of over 65 chapters throughout the world. The only requirements for membership are graduation from (or current attendance at) a law school and support of the mission statement, which declares: We affirm the strength brought to the law by a lawyer's personal religious conviction. We strive through public service and professional excellence to promote fairness and virtue founded upon the rule of law.

Filipino members, who need to avail of the Chapter’s Pro Bono legal services, may get in touch with their local leaders for further details.
